Breeding your mare to one of our purebred Australian Stock Horse sires will result in a foal eligible for three (3) registrations. Two North American organisations: the American Appendix Association and the Performance Horse Registry; plus the Australian-based Australian Stock Horse Society Ltd, established in 1971, with a growing membership of over 9,500 individuals and in excess of 170,000 registered horses.

McArthur-Icewood will provide breeders with complimentary registration for their resulting offspring in the Performance Horse Registry, and provide all necessary documentation for registration with another body.

SO YOU WANT TO BREED TO CADABRA
Here are some basic guidelines to help you through our breeding process:

STEP 1: Have your mare checked for breeding suitability. Mares arriving for live cover by Cadabra must have a current reproductive exam, testing negative to breeding transmitted diseases and infection. It is a good idea to know before the breeding season begins that the mare you plan to breed is a suitable prospect.

STEP 2: Download our Breeding Contract and read thoroughly. Once you have read through our contract and find the terms satisfactory, download our Booking Form and return with the booking fee of $300 per mare. We require the completed Breeding Contract with the remaining $900 of the service fee before the mare is bred.

STEP 3: Breed your mare.

LIVE COVER: We recommend that mares arriving for live cover be scanned prior to arrival for ovulation and cycle information. Most vets will be able to give you an idea about where your mare is at in her cycle which is helpful for us to know. Once the mare cycles and has been covered by Cadabra, she can be taken home for pregnancy testing at 14-16 days from last date of service. Alternatively for an additional cost, we can keep the mare for the following 14-16 days to watch for her second cycle, and have her pregnancy tested for you.

ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION: You will obviously have enlisted the services of a vet well versed in equine artificial breeding to inseminate your mare, so have your vet contact our vet! We use Moore Equine Veterinary Centre, and to save any drama, it is best to let the vets confer between themselves and decide when they need semen and shipping. At Moore Equine, Chris Berezowski DVM, DACT, DABVP (Equine) can be contacted at (403) 931-3343 for further advice and pricing. When semen has been ordered, he will contact us and we will endeavour to have the stallion there when required.

STEP 4: Congratulations! Your mare should be safely in foal. At this point, we will provide you with registry information for your pending foal. Alernatively, you can decide to wait until the foal is born to save the risk of losing your paperwork in the coming year. Let us know what you prefer and we will be happy to assist in any way we can.
